Travel can change your life in so many ways. It can expose you to new cultures, help you come out of a hard time, introduce you to new people, and help you reconnect with yourself. When you travel to a location where you can unwind, meditate, and practice mindfulness all day, you feel a renewed sense of inner peace.

There is no better way to plan out your next travel journey than by using your journal. Follow these tips for a mindful journaling experience before you travel.

Brainstorm

The first step is to brainstorm your travel plan, including the places you want to visit, the sights you want to see where you want to stay, and so on. Create a mind map, list them out, or make a flow chart, as you please. The important thing is to get all your ideas onto the page before you pick and choose.

Create a checklist

After selecting your place of travel, create a checklist about all the things you need before going and check them off as you complete them. You could create a checkbox-style list or color in sections on a chart be as creative as you like and use a system that works. Include elements such as booking tickets and hotel rooms, buying travel clothes, and stocking up on any medications you need for your travels.

Use visual guides

A great way to excite yourself about your travel is to create your own visual guides to the things that await you. You could draw pictures of the sights you will visit, the food you will try, and the things you will buy. Try to craft a story about your journey through the pictures you draw, so that you can keep track of the things you want to do once you have reached your destination.

Express your thoughts about the journey

We can usually experience some form of nervousness before traveling, be it the prospect of visiting a brand-new place, anxiety about the possible difficulties, or simply nervousness about whether the trip will be worth it. It is important that you keep documenting these feelings in your journal, either by listing them out or by making drawings that express how you feel. Remember that some nervousness is extremely normal and that these feelings will vanish once you start the trip. Keep practicing mindfulness as you travel and you are bound to have a special experience.
